NOTICE OF RACE

1 ORGANISING AUTHORITY

The Coppa dei Campioni will be organised, under the auspices of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), by the:

2 VENUE

The venue will be in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy.

3 EVENT GRADING

The event is an ISAF Grade 3 event.

4 PROGRAMME

The programme will be as follows:
  Thursday, 29th June    09.00    Arrival of participants, Registrations
       09.00-18.00    Practice with the boats
       18.00    Crew weighing
       18.30    Drawing of Pairings
Briefing and meeting with the skippers
  Friday, 30th June        Preliminary Round Robins
  Saturday, 1st July        Preliminary Round Robins
  Sunday, 2nd July        Finals and Prize Giving

4.1 Unless excused by the Organising Authority, attendance at the Briefing and at the Prize Giving is mandatory.

5 SKIPPERS ELIGIBILITY

Only skippers invited by the Organising Authority will be eligible to enter this event. Male skippers have to bring a team of two crew members, female skippers to bring a team of 3 crew members.

The designated skipper shall helm the yacht at all times while racing, except in an emergency.

To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing (fax or email is acceptable) to be received by the date specified on the letter of invitation. An entry bond of USD 500 shall accompany confirmation. The entry Bond will be refunded if the skipper completes the Series. .

6 ENTRIES

Each skipper and his team shall be entered on completion of registration and crew weighing. Italian competitors must be in compliance with the FIV Offshore Rules (FIV card with medical stamp).

6.2 Damage Deposit

A damage deposit of USD 500 shall be paid at registration. This deposit is the maximum payable by the skipper as a result of anyone incident.

Any remaining deposit after the event will be refunded on 4th July after the races.

In the event that a deduction from the damage deposit is decided by the Organising Authority it may require that the deposit be restored to its original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue in the event.

6.3 Insurance

An Insurance coverage for damages to the boats will be stipulated by the Organising Authority. The insurance coverage doesn't include the initial 250 USD damage for incident.

7 RULES

The following rules shall govern the event:
ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 1997/2000 including RRS C9
Smeralda 888 Class Rules
The Notice of Race, including amendments
The Sailing Instructions (available at registration) and any amendments
The rules of the handling of boats, which shall also apply to any practise sailing

In case of conflict between any of the above Rules, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

8 JURY

The Organising Authority with the approval of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) will appoint an International Jury and Umpires.

9 BOATS AND SAILS

The event will be sailed in Smeralda 888 Class Boats.

Boats will be provided by the Organising Committee.

The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Genoa, Jib, Fractionate Spinnaker.

Boats will be allocated by draw as decided by the Race Committee and rotated during the event.

9 CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)

The Number of crew (including the skipper) shall be 3 for male skippers and 4 for female skippers. All registered crew shall sail all races. One additional person will be on board as the owner's representative.
The Organising Authority will provide this person.

The maximum total crew weight of the team of three (or four for female), determined prior to racing shall be 262 kg., when wearing at least shorts and shirts.

When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the International Jury or Organising Authority may authorise an original crew member to substitute.
When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the International Jury or Organising Authority may authorise a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

10 EVENT FORMAT

A Round Robin in two groups. Semi Finals and Finals among the four top scoring teams (two per group).

The Organising Authority may vary the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.

11 COURSE

The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings.

The intended course area will be in the waters in front the Marina of Porto Cervo shown on chart 323 of the Istituto Idrografico della Marina Militare.

12 ADVERTISING

The event will be classified as a Category B event in accordance with RRS Appendix G.

A decal representing the event's sponsor shall be displayed on both sides of the hull in the forward 25% area at all times from 09.00 on June 29th until two hours after the finishing of the last race. The decal will be provided by the Organising Committee.

Any advertising displayed by competitors on clothing (while racing or attending official functions) or anywhere within the boundary of the regatta venue shall be approved in writing by the Organising Authority. The Organising Authority may refuse to give such approval for any reason including conflicts with another advertiser's business interests. The Organising Authority may restrict the size of any advert.

Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for infringements of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1).

13 PRIZES

Trophies to the first, second and third classified skipper of the Series.

14 MEDIA, IMAGES AND SOUND

The Organising Authority may require competitors to be available for interviews. The Organising Authority shall have the right to use any images and sounds recorded during the event free of any charge.

All those taking part in the event do so at their own risk. The Organising Authority, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.

18 INVITATIONS

Entries will only be accepted from invited Skippers.

Invited skippers and their crew will be offered travel expenses, free logistic accommodations and meals during the event.
