PRELIMINARY NOTICE OF RACE

The Sardinia Cup is a special Challenge Trophy for National Teams presented in 1978 by H.H. the Aga Khan. The event is organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with the support of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV).

2 TEAMS NOMINATION AND ENTRIES

Each team may be composed of a maximum of three yachts. Only the two best scorings of each team will be taken into consideration for the team results. It is therefore possible to enter teams with only two yachts.

Yachts making part of the teams are to be divided into the following categories :
IMS with GPH lower than 555.0
IMS with GPH between 540.0 and 600.00
IMS with GPH between 585.0 and 660.0

National Teams are to be nominated by the National Authorities member of the ISAF.

Each country may enter two national teams.
The Organising Authority may accept teams from regions and geographic areas.

Each National Authority takes the responsibility that the nominated yachts represent the Nation. The Organising Authority does not impose limitation and/or obligations on crew's nationality or residence.

Entries are to be received by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda not later than 15th August 2000; eventual entries forwarded after that date might be accepted by the Organising Committee prior to 10.00 hours on September 1st, 2000. Entries arriving after 15th August will be charged a 20% additional fee.

The Organising Authority may accept substitutions in the composition of the teams after that date, but changes of teams and categories shall not be made after the start of the first race.

Nomination is to include:
a) the name of each yacht, sail number, flag, expected GPH, category;
b) name of the owner or charterer, skipper with relative addresses, phone and fax numbers.

3 REGISTRATION

Registration formalities shall be completed by September 10th, 2000 at the YCCS Regatta Office, delivering the crew list with the names and weight of each crew member.

Italian competitors shall be in compliance with the Italian Sailing Federation Rules for agonistic activities.

The Organising Authority and/or the Race Committee reserve the right to modify the programme because of weather conditions or other reasons.

5 RULES

ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 1997-2000
2000 IMS Rules
ORC Special Regulations for category 3, with life raft on board in all races
Notice of Race
Sailing Instructions and any subsequent amendments

In case of conflict between ISAF and ORC and IMS rules, ISAF shall prevail.
In case of conflict between any of the above Rules and/or Regulations and the Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

The event is classified as Category B. Appendix "G" of the RRS.

The Organising Authority requires all yachts to display a decal representing the event's sponsor on both sides of the hull in the forward area from 10.00 hours on Monday, 11th September until two hours after the finishing time of the last race.
The Organising Committee will provide the decal.
Furthermore should a sponsor pennant be provided it shall be exposed during the Series.

The Organising Committee may request to one or more of the classes making part of the teams for the Sardinia Cup 2000 to install an ORBCOMM satellite monitor equipment, whose installation is very simple. The station is constituted by a small antenna and an apparatus with a total weight of 1,4 kgs. needing 12V power connected to the on board plant. The aforesaid station has been studied for not interfering with the instrumentation and the various communication equipment on board. The Organising Committee will provide for the installation.

6 SCORING

6.1 Each Team total points will be the sum of the points acquired by the best two scorings of the team for each race. The result will be on corrected time as calculated by the IMS, with constructed courses and performance curve scoring method, or by the GPH handicap as decided by the Race Committee

6.2 Only results in each category will be issued.

6.3 The Low Point Scoring System of RRS Appendix "A" will apply.

6.4 The IMS Dynamic Allowance (DA) shall not be applied while the Age Allowance (AA) shall be applied.

7 ENTRY FEE

The entry fee for each yacht is USD 500 payable to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda upon registration.

8 RATING

The expected GPH value shall be indicated together with the nomination.
The final rating certificate, duly signed, shall be presented to the Organising Authority prior to 10.00 hours on 11th September 2000.

No change to the rating certificates will be allowed after the above specified time unless imposed by the controls carried out.

9 MEASUREMENT CONTROLS

Yachts shall be available for measurement inspections at Porto Cervo - Port East prior to 10.00 hours on 10th September 2000.

It is the responsibility of each yacht to check and observe the measurement controls programme which will be posted on the official notice board.
Inspections may also be carried out at any time during the races.

10 MEASUREMENT PROTESTS

Measurement protests from competitors shall be lodged prior to 2 hours before the start of the first race.

11 SAILS

IMS Regulations shall apply. The number of sails allowed on board shall refer to the maximum LOA of each category.

12 INTERNATIONAL JURY

An International Jury will be nominated according to RRS Appendix "Q".
The decisions of the International Jury are not subject to appeal. RRS 70.4.

13 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available for competitors upon final registration.

14 RADIO AND ELECTRONICS AIDS

14.1 All types of radio and electronic equipment are permitted. Radio communications among yachts of the same team are also permitted.

14.2 Yachts shall be equipped with VHF with channel 16 and 72.

15 TROPHIES

The Sardinia Cup Challenge Trophy, presented by H.H. the Aga Khan to the winning team
Trophies to the second and third classified team
Cup to the best yacht in each category

16 MOORINGS

Free moorings will be available at Porto East from 10.00 hours on 10th September to 08.00 hours on 20th September 2000 for yachts properly registered and participating at the event.
