NOTICE OF RACE

The traditional biennial appointment of veteran sailing yachts, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in the incomparable scenario of North East Sardinia waters, will be held at Porto Cervo from 31st august to 4th September 1999. The event is held with the collaboration and under the auspices of AIVE (Associazione Italiana Vele d'Epoca).

In concurrence with the Prada Veteran Boat Rally the regattas for the 12M Class circuit will be held (from 1st to 4th September) under the auspices of the 12M Association and the AIVE.

2 ELIGIBILITY

The Prada Veteran Boat Rally 1999 is open to all sailing yachts built before 1950 (Veteran Yachts) and to yachts of the 12 Metres Class.

The Organising Authority reserves the right to admit entries of wooden and/or metal sailing yachts built after 1950, and up to 1974, and of replicas of veteran yachts, provided they correspond to design and construction criteria typical of Classic Yachts as defined in the CIM Regulations for the measurement and the Veteran and Classic yacht races.

The 12 Metres event is open to all modern and veteran 12 Metres as per separate Notice of Race.

3 PROGRAMME

The programme will be as follows:

  Tuesday, 31st August    Arrival of Participants, AIVE Inspections, Registrations, Briefing
  Wednesday, 1st September    Race
  Thursday, 2nd September    Race
  Friday, 3rd September    Race
  Saturday, 4th September    Final Parade, Prize Giving

The Organising Authority reserves the right to modify the above programme for adverse weather conditions or other reasons.

4 ENTRY AND REGISTRATION

Entries have to reach the YCCS by 1st August 1999, together with the information indicated on the entry form and accompanied by the entry fee.

The Organising Authority reserves the right to accept entries after 1st August 1999 without still ensuring, after that date, the free mooring at the quay. An additional fee of 20% will be charged to those entries arriving after 1st August 1999.

All participants shall complete entry formalities with the Race Office within 1200 hours on 31st August 1999 delivering the crew list.

We remind that Italian competitors shall be in compliance with the Italian Federation Rules. Therefore the FIV card for 1999 with apposite medical stamp shall be delivered to the Race Office together with the crew list.

5 ENTRY FEE

  US$ 500   
for yachts over 25 metres
  US$ 400   
for yachts between 16 and 25 metres
  US$ 350   
for yachts under 16 metres

The entry fee for yachts not in possess of a CIM rating certificate shall be increased of US$ 60 for the release of this certificate and for the temporary association to the AIVE.

The entry fee must accompany the entry form and should be made payable to Yacht Club Costa Smeralda either by cheque or by bank transfer to:

6 DIVISION OF ENTRIES

Participating yachts will be divided as follows:
Veteran Yachts
Classic Yachts
12 Metre Class

Veteran and Classic Yachts may be divided into different groups and categories according to their rigging and LOA. 12 Metres yachts will race in a separate Class.

7 RESULTS

Separate result lists will be drawn up in corrected time for each of the groups and categories in which yachts will be divided.

A general result list in corrected time will be drawn up for all the Veteran Yachts, for the award of the PRADA VETERAN BOAT RALLY TROPHY.

For the results of the 12 Metres, boats will be divided in three categories (and will be gathered into one group in case the number of yachts in each category is less than 3):
boats with I.T.M.A. rating certificate
boats with A.I.V.E rating certificate
boats unprovided with valid certificate

Separate result lists may be drawn up, for yachts of the Metre Classes (non 12 Metres), in case there is a minimum number of 5 yachts per Class.

8 C.I.M.'s RATING FORMULA

The corrected time will be calculated according to the rating formula described in part. 5 of the Measurement, Requirements and Equipment Regulations for Veteran and Classic Yachts. All yachts must be in possess of a valid C.I.M. rating certificate. Yachts not yet rated after this formula, may apply to AIVE, comply with the relative regulations regarding the release of the certificates which foresees the entry of the owner in the category of Temporary Member, the payment of the relative fee indicated in paragraph 5, and the inspection of the measurers appointed by AIVE.

9 RULES

The regatta will be conducted in accordance with:
1997 - 2000 ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
C.I.M. Regulations for the measurement and the Veteran and Classic yacht races
12 Metres Class Rules (for the 12 Metres)
Sailing Instructions

Following communications of the Race Committee and/or of the Protest Committee

The International Rules to prevent collision at sea will be in force in case of night-navigation.

In case of conflict between any of the above rules, the Sailing instructions shall prevail.

This is a category "A" regatta - RRS - Appendix "G".

10 COURSES

A number of courses among the islands will be described in the Sailing Instructions. Some of them will eventually be modified for the 12 Metre Class.

11 NAUTICAL CHARTS

The following charts of the I.I. are recommended: n° 42 - 43 - 323 - 324 - 325 - 910.

12 AIVE INSPECTIONS

On 31st August, a special AIVE Technical Committee, will inspect participating yachts for the control and the eventual attribution of the rating as already specified in paragraph 8.

13 MOORINGS

All entries confirmed before 1st August 1999 will be offered free moorings at Porto Cervo - Port East from 0900 on 31st August to 0800 on 5th September. For bookings of mooring prior and after these dates please apply directly to the Marina Management (Tel. +39/0789/91100 - Fax +39/0789/91153).

The cost of electricity, water and telephone links are not included in the entry fee. Please apply directly to the Marina management for the eventual links.

14 PRIZES

PRADA VETERAN BOAT RALLY TROPHY to the overall winner of the Veteran Yachtsl
Prizes to the first classified yachts in each group/category in the final overall result list
AIVE's plate to the yacht which has best maintained its original construction parameters

Furthermore the following special prizes will be awarded according to apposite modalities: "Luigi Vietti Trophy" and "SKAGERRAK Trophy"

15 RESPONSIBILITY

All yachts shall be in supplied of the prescribed documents and navigation licenses and must be in possess of the safety equipment, foreseen by the national laws of pertinence.

The participation in the races of this series is free choice of owners or representatives of each yacht. Owners or representatives are the only responsible for sailing and taking part to the event in relation to weather conditions, the conditions of each yacht and for the capacity and training of their crew.

Competitors are reminded that owners or their representatives are personally responsible for all accidents occurred to their crews and yachts.

It is their duty to have insurance against any risk including third party liability.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and AIVE decline any and all responsibility for accidents or damages occurring to persons and things, ashore and/or at sea, as a result of participation in the races of this series.

The attention of competitors is drawn to Part 1 of the RRS - Fundamental Rule 4: "A boat is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing".
